Football Data Analytics

This 12-week, beginner-friendly course introduces students to football data analytics through a deliberate progression: from understanding the sport itself, to the vocabulary of modern football analytics, to the fundamentals of data analysis, and finally into hands-on Python programming applied to real football datasets. No prior coding or analytics experience is assumed at the start, and every technical concept is anchored in a football example so it never feels abstract. Across three one-and-a-half-hour sessions per week, students first build football and data-literacy foundations (Weeks 1–4), then learn basic python programming along with data handling (Weeks 5–8), and finally apply these skills to gather, analyse, and visualise real football data — culminating in a capstone project where each student builds their own project. (Weeks 9–12). Each week includes a short practice exercise, and seven checkpoint quizzes are spaced throughout the term to reinforce learning without adding heavy workload.
